Threatment Process

Skins are soaked and treated with a depilatory.

The rough skins are pickled or chilled when they are supplied at the tannery. Well conserved skins are a determining factor for the quality of the final product. The rests of meat or fat or other unusable parts are moved.

Heir Sorting

Dry-pressed skins are checked and selected

Almost scar and insect bite free skins are used for the purest leather applications. The back side of the leather is rubbed to obtain an equal thickness. The after tanning, colouring with aniline paint and after greasing process is done in big drums.

High-end Quality

Inspection and sorting of the finished leather

Automatic pistolsapply a pigment layer on the skin surface. Each product must comply with the required lab tests.

Thickness

Strongest structure of the skin

The thickness of an unprocessed skin is more or less 5 mm. Since 5 mm is too thick to be processed, the skin is split lengthwise in two halves: grain leather (upper part) and split leather (under part). It is possible to split at a chosen thickness: the minimum thickness for furniture leather is 1.0 mm. The most current thicknesses are between 1.2 en 2.0 mm. Exceptionally, furniture leather of over 3.0 mm is manufactured.

Grain Image

Very uniform to smoothen the irregularities

The grain image is determined to a great extent by the thickness of the skin. Thin leather has a fine grain image, thick a rougher grain image. By nature the grain image is finer in the centre of the skin and more distinct towards the outskirts. The finest skins keep this natural grain image.

Switched to Trading of Leather

Determinedly focused on export

Nowadays most of the Stolz products are being exported. From the North to the South of Europe, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf region there are seat manufacturers, interior architects, car interior designers,… who almost daily use Stolz leatherworks.
